In water jetting, everyone gets dirty. But there’s a difference between those who handle the grime and those consumed by it.
In the Swedish card game Skitgubbe – Grime Guy – the goal is simple: get rid of your cards as quickly as possible and rise above the dirt, just like Waterjetman. The loser, left with the last card, becomes the Grime Guy.
Players: 2–4
Deck: Standard 52-card deck
Goal: Be the first to get rid of all your cards
Loser: The last player left with cards
Cards on the table
At the start of the game, each player is dealt three cards face down on the table. On top of these, another three cards are placed face up. These six table cards will play an important role later in the game.
Cards in hand
Each player is then dealt three cards to hold in their hand. Before the game begins, players may exchange cards from their hand with their own face-up cards on the table. The goal is to prepare the strongest possible table cards for the later stages of play.
Card values
2: Can be played on any card and resets the pile to the lowest value
3 – 9: Standard values
10: Can be played on any card and clears the entire pile
Jack: Value 11
Queen: Value 12
King: Value 13
Ace: Value 14
Special rules
If four cards of the same value are played in a row (regardless of who played them), the pile is cleared. The player who placed the fourth card immediately plays another card.
If a player plays a 2, the pile is reset to that value, and the same player immediately plays another card.
If a player clears the pile with a 10, they immediately play another card.
If a player cannot play a card from their hand, they may draw the top card from the stock as a last chance. If the card can be played (equal or higher value, or a special card like 2 or 10), it is placed immediately. If not, the player must pick up the entire pile.
Playing the game
The game starts with the player holding the lowest card in their hand. If several players share the same lowest card, the starting player is the one closest to the dealer’s left. Players then take turns clockwise.
On a turn, a player places one or several cards of the same value from their hand onto the pile in the middle. The card played must be of equal or higher value than the previous one in the pile.
After playing, a player must immediately draw from the stock until they once again hold three cards. Players who already have three or more cards do not draw. This continues until the stock is empty.
Once a player has no cards left in hand, they continue with their table cards – first the face-up ones, then the face-down ones. If a player is forced to pick up the pile while playing their table cards, they must return to playing from their hand until it is empty again before continuing with the table cards.
The first player to get rid of all their cards is the winner.
The last player left with cards becomes the Grime Guy and loses the game.
GOOD LUCK – AND STAY SAFE!
